Franco Vairani
Bio

Franco Vairani is a graduate student in the PhD program in Computation at the MIT Department of Architecture, under Prof. William J. Mitchell.

He has been involved in a wide range of design activities at MIT, from architecture to urban interventions, online communities, as well as industrial, graphic and animated applications. He is currently participating as a designer in the Smart Cities group for the Concept Car and the Digital Mile projects. Previously, he worked as a Research Scientist at MIT desgining and developing an online community system for the School of Architecture known as StudioMIT.
Additionally, Franco has been working as a designer with Meejin Yoon, Eric Howeler and Josh Barandon in a number of projects. He has also been actively consulting for a number of designers including Frank Gehry, Diller+Scofidio, Michael Arad, Philips Design, Kyu Sung Woo, among others. In 2001, he developed with Josh Barandon all visual material for 'Reflecting Absence', which resulted as the winning entry for the World Trade Center Memorial Competition.
Franco joined MIT in 1998 and worked with Prof. Nagakura in the visualization of masterpieces of modern architecture in the Unbuilt Monuments project.
His designs and visualizations have been published in major newspapers, specialized magazines and internet websites, as well as exhibitions in the US and Japan.

Franco holds a MS in Architecture Studies from the Department of Architecture at MIT and a Diploma in Architecture from the Universidad Catolica de Cordoba (Argentina). Franco was born and raised in the southern part of Argentina (Patagonia).
