The Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami launched a project with MIT to develop plans that would make Miami the home of the world's first digitally enabled performing arts center. This Digital Media Center would not be a physical space but an extensive web of technology overlaying the public, performance, rehearsal and education spaces of the new Performing Arts Center. The innovations of the digital revolution would be embedded in the live performing arts venue in order to extend the reach of the arts beyond the physical confines of the Center.
The goal is to discover how a contemporary performing arts center and its resident companies can participate in the digital revolution in arts and entertainment in order to develop new products and markets that will significantly alter their current financial models.
